Ingegerd Jonsson has been running Hälsinge Såpa since 1992 and makes natural soap from tall oil, following an old recipe. The tall oil is a by-product of pulp production, and it is distilled in a factory on the Hälsinge coast to varying degrees of purity. Hälsinge use only the purest oils to produce their soaps. Traditionally, soap has been used for rolling wool fabrics. Due to the soap's basic pH value, the wool fibres are opened so that they can more easily be hooked together, and in this way the fabric is tucking. A NEW SWEDEN chose to use Swedish soap from Hälsinge soap instead of chemical tucking agent when we walked our wool fabric at Sjuhäradbygden's dye.
